ICE & FIRE | GYUUZEN | HONG KONG

This is my second time visit of Gyuuzen. Almost one year after, the restaurant remains exactly the same; the spacial dining area, simply but classic deco with a casual and quite localized vide. I was quite impressive by their rich collection of beef/wagyu set for the Japanese style BBQ, while this time, they have some fresh new items on the menu which is trying to catch the last freshness for this summer season.

Sushi & Sashimi is the main role this night! We are not only 'spoiled' by the lovely taste and skilful cut, but also the beautiful presentation and layout of the dishes.

CASA PENNINGTON | HONG KONG

It is a decent place with an all-around cuisine but featured by seafood and Italian dishes in general, a quiet place in the crowded location (Causeway Bay) which is perfect to 2-6 persons dining arrangement. The restaurant is attached to the hotel so that to be quite under-the-line (public's attention), and above-the-line (quality:price). Plus I do think it deserves a return visit for its wonderful pear pine, and seafood platter.

3-MINUTE PIZZA | THE POINT | HONG KONG

The Point, is the new opening modern Italian garment stop in Causeway Bay. Just at the corner of Tang Lung Street (A short but delicious eating street famous), it is the new blood - casual and fast Italian dining concept.

3-minute quick pizza is the gimmick of this new restaurant. The stone oven 'fries' the 9-inch pizza in 6 different standard flavors all day long, and personal creation is also welcomed by the Custom Pizza choice. Stone-oven-made pizza is not something very special, but in 3 minutes, would be a quite good point for most of the city people, who's always chasing their time or being chased by the time. It would be a perfect selling-point for a take-way business in my personal opinion, and the price for 9-inch one ranges from $68 to $88 is reasonable. I consider The Point as a good & efficient choice during busy weekdays.

CASUAL & QUIET NIGHT | BILIBALA YAKITORI BAR | HONG KONG

Get used to the noise and crowd in Central/Soho or TST, sometimes I would look for some quiet and easy-talking places, which are more for normal catching-up with close friends. The backyard of Causeway Bay would be a good choice, which I am introducing here a new open Japanese BBQ & Bar (opened months before), which is a middle-priced but quality place with a combination of Japanese bar and J-style BBQ restaurant

SU CASA CHILEAN OYSTER BAR | HONG KONG

Causeway Bay is a place full of adventure (for foods), especially a lot of private-kitchen concept. Last week, we were presented by Su Casa Chilean Oyster Bar. The taste of this private-kitchen restaurant was floating once I passed the normal entrance door. A very cozy and quiet environment was my first impression; spacious dining area with a lot of open-space design while smartly hiding the kitchen area; a simple dark color tone covered the whole space while being decorated by interesting orange-red and light brown chairs.

The oyster bar is featured by quality seafoods, of course, oyster is on the top of supplying. Like most private kitchens, reservation is required and as I see, the restaurant is really managing the coming guests to ensure the comfort & the quality of private dining concept.

NIGHT GARDEN IN THE AIR | SHELTER | HONG KONG

Fleed from the noise of shopping area in Hong Kong, you don't need to travel somewhere far. Shelter Group opens their 'garden' in a massive platform on the 7th floor of Hysan Place. It was an ideal place for an after-work drink and a decent Italian dinner. Italian cuisine with G.H.MUMM champagne and featured cocktail is a absolutely their bright color.

AMAZING CH-INGAPOREAN CUISINE | PARADISE DYNASTY | HONG KONG

Talking about signature food in Southeast China, you won't miss steamed dumpling (Xiao Long Bao) which is not only appearing everywhere in China, but also the world. In Hong Kong, you might think about Din Tai Fung while mentioning Xiao Long Bao, but what about something new? Rainbow Xiao Long Bao, must be fresh to you, and alined with it, a rich selection of Singaporean, Shanghainese, Cantonese, Sichuanese culinary dishes are offered by Paradise Dynasty flagship restaurant in Lee Theatre, Causeway Bay.

LES SAVEURS PRIVATE KITCHEN | HONG KONG

I would like to call Private Kitchen as Below-the-Line restaurants, because most of them are running well based on the clients' recommendation in their own networks. Normally those restaurants have very limited seats; they don't expect a crowd and they do reservation only. It might be the bad news to the eaters who are always craving good dining concepts.

Want to try private kitchen?

Here you go, one of 'below-the-line' restaurants in Causeway.

DININGCITY HONG KONG RESTAURANT WEEK | WOOLOOMOOLOO PRIME | HONG KONG

Hong Kong is definitely a dining city, and every foodie in this city won't miss the good chance of Restaurant Week, when most of the fine dining restaurants offer their special tasting menu for lunch and dinner. This year, I picked up two restaurants, one is perfected explored through the first contact and the second invitation by the owner (Read more about Maya Cafe), the other one is introduced here by their Set Lunch Menu.

HEE KEE CRAB GENERAL | HONG KONG

Canal Road (underneath the bridge), is an iconic place in Hong Kong, and that night I went there for my first experience of 'Chili Crab underneath the bridge' in Hee Kee Crab General, which is one of the oldest and the most famous Chili Crab restaurant. I have not been to other chili crab restaurants in the same area while this one gives me a good impression by its clean and cheerful dining environment once I step into it (actually the restaurant is at the basement). To me, tiny and clean is the first and probably the most important condition when I judge a Chinese restaurant, because I know most of Chinese dishes go through a complicated cooking process including a lot oil, sauces and other materials, which is much more easier to get everywhere a mass comparing to the western ones. Thus, I take the dining environment very seriously.

MOON CUPCAKES PACKAGE | TWELVE CUPCAKES | HONG KONG

Living in modern city, we are always expecting something romantic, something full of love, and something can touch the deepest part of our heart. Many people pursue it by sweets, and the delicate cupcake, undoubtedly, is a perfect expression to it.

We have Kisses in Hong Kong, and now the No.1 Singapore Cupcake brand, Twelve Cupcakes is landed in Hong Kong with some branch stores attached to main shopping malls. This autumn, a new designed Moon Cupcake Package is launched recently, including 4 Moon Cupcakes and 4 packages of Twinings tea bags, plus two cupcakes redemption coupon.

THINKERS | HONG KONG

Busy businessman, 3 hours spare time in Causeway Bay, where to go? Here I was just introduced to one interesting 'business' space, offering free-flow drinks and accepting foods (brought by your own). Cozy and open space, perfectly for moving-office crew in Hong Kong, and even to be little conference room with full equipment!

  • Free Drink including Coffee, Herbal Tea, Soft Drinks...
  • Free Wi-Fi, Flipchart, Projector, Speaker, and even mini-presentation equipment
  • About 1,000 square feets with 40 seats available
  • $60 for the first 3 hours, $20 per hour onwards

NAM LOONG CAFE | HONG KONG

Memory is one of the most precious asset for human beings. For Hongkongers who's used to a wide diversity of dining culture since early times, the Hong Kong Tea Restaurant, is undoubtedly on the memorable list. The green metal railings, the white ceramics, the efficient-working staffs... each part forms up the idea of 'Tea Restaurant' where is the dream-creator of most Hongkongers.

Years going, the old-style restaurant is fading away for many reasons, but luckily, fading-away memory creates more opportunities for those who care a lot and who can twist it with more value. Nam Loong, managed by Golden Stone Catering Group, is another story of modern-traditional Tea Restaurant.

EAT FROM FACE TO TAIL | GYUUZEN JAPANESE RESTAURANT | HONG KONG

Looking for good quality Wagyu BBQ? A new opening Japanese restaurant in Causeway Bay would be another choice in your wishing list. Gyuuzen, located in 13/F of World Trade Centre, featured in Japanese BBQ, good quality Wagyu supply and regular Sashimi, which impressed me a lot that night, are their 7-item Sashimi Platter and a rich provision of Wagyu. Cozy and chic dining environment, which is very ideal for large group people. It enjoys all the new-opening advantages of clean, tiny, and superior services

Afternoon Tea for Nights

This is my second time in Rondavy's Artisan Kitchen, this little Jardin upstairs in Causeway Bay. Heard the good news from blogger friends through Facebook that Ron's place has re-built and enlarged a lot with new painting on the wall. And I'm so happy to hear that they are now encouraging dinner dining experience to the customers for the all-day-breakfast and some new mousses cake flavors.
