Fine dining & French Cuisine, is it equal to expensive and small potion? Le Salon, is quite a good debate. Le Salon Restaurant et Crossanterie, located on the 13/F of Hysan Plaza, splits itself as a ‘French street-style’ pastries serving croissants with different hot fillings, and a fine dining place to Hongkongers. The restaurant has a limited dining space while they make a long bench table at the entrance to afford a 10-person dining party, not bad. At night, there is a quiet and French romantic & stylish dining atmosphere just filled with relax music and sounds of wine glasses. Sitting in the restaurant, we have a fantastic view of lights-in-night of Hong Kong. And I do appreciate the idea that the restaurant tries the best to create privacy and comfort for the clients by providing semi-transparent curtain with elegant pattern of French lamp or candle in black. Regarding to the dinner, it is served as different gourmet sets (4 choices at that night) with different prices. To be honest, I do consider a good deal for our dinner that night. ($388+10% per person for a 3-course set dinner menu with coffee or tea).

講起法國大餐,似乎小分量和價格不菲是離不開的話題之一;這次我要來介紹下分量不小,價格又合理的法式大餐好去處。銅鑼灣希慎廣場13樓的Le Salon Restaurant et Crossanterie 分為法式牛角酥與咖啡小亭的外賣區與品嚐法式大餐的餐廳兩部份。餐廳空間十分有限,但依然容得下一張可供10人聚餐的長餐桌。餐廳風格低調優雅,夜晚就餐環境相當不錯,幾乎每一桌都可享受到香港不夜城的閃爍夜景,伴著優雅浪漫的音樂,整個氛圍沉靜卻不沉悶,充滿葡萄酒杯的叮噹聲。最欣賞之處要屬餐廳細節之處為顧客極力營造的私人空間,鄰近的餐桌均以半透明的薄紗窗簾隔開,隨著冷氣風的吹動,窗簾微拂,而窗簾上黑色的法式檯燈或蠟燭等圖樣也隨著優雅舞動,情調倍增之餘又不乏功能性,實在聰明。Le Salon夜晚提供晚市套餐,當晚共有4套2種不同價位可選,老實說,當晚自己選的388套餐已是相當滿足,價格真心合理。

Pan-seared Scallop Stuffed with Stilton Cheese served with White Bean Casserole

APPETIZER | FRENCH DUCK BREAST
Slow-cooked French Duck Breast served with Candice Chestnut and Raspberry Emulsion

Impressive quality of scallop is fresh & tender, covered by a thin grilled layer and dressing by the savory sauce, meanwhile keep its original seafood sweet and raw texture in the core part of scallop. I don’t like the raw and hard texture of white bean skin which tastes as it’s not peeled while the sauce makes beans tastes awesome magically.

Seems I’m the lucky girl to make correct choice most of time, the duck breast has a lovely girly-pink color and tastes very soft and tender. The slow-cooked way locks the water inside the texture and take it with little fat part connected to the crispy and smoked-flavor duck skin, you will have a rich flavor of grilled & greasy (not too much), juicy and melting and at last coming to soft but chewy of duck breast.

MAIN COURSE | CHILEAN SEA BASS
Pan Fried Sea Bass Fillet with Sauteed Greens, Dill and Mussel Sauce

U.S. Angus tenderloin is cooked typically in a French way, so that the beef tastes much more soft and gentle, even by observing it, you will find those vertical and horizontal lines are slimmer. It tastes just as the looking, quite detailed in texture and well-dressed by the sauce, but as to steak, I prefer the way in raw.

Back to ‘softer’ fish dish, I’m even speechless to its super soft and fresh fish and savory and crispy paper-texture fish skin! And do not skip the almost invisible white sauce which is similar to cream sauce but in a French way to be lighter but mixed with a little custard flavor. 

DESSERT | BRULEE WAFFLE

DESSERT | DAILY CAKE. CHOCOLATE MOUSSE CAKE

Last course of French dessert, personally, I don’t think they are so good as the appetizer and main course. Filled the waffle surface with cream brulee, interesting enough, while the over-moisture texture of waffle is not what I pursue; the surface layer of cream brulee is not crispy either. Luckily, the daily cake saves their ‘reputation’. A good control of milk chocolate to form the square mousse cake; decorated with berries, nuts and light cream. A bite of fresh, juicy fruit with condensed, smooth chocolate mousse is never too good to finish a perfect night.


Oops, forget coffee and tea, actually they should be the main player to close the whole French night, while too happy to forget taking photos, I just say, rose tea is worth to order and quite qualified flat white served by Le Salon, with the after-meal drinks, lovely handmade chocolate is the little gift, potato chocolate with flower pattern is the most interesting flavor among three, while I think it could be improved in terms of moisture/dry texture.
