CHECK IN SINGAPORE | SINGAPORE

One day in Singapore, how and where to satisfy my stomach? The easiest way to do it would be a 'check-in' trip to cover the most famous points. No need to kill your wallet or credit card, we can still fill up our stomach and mind in a slightly perfect way.

- Morning / Breakfast -

Kaya toast, eggs and coffee is more than enough, and I was so indulged to Ya Kun's in Chinatown. It's located in the food square but facing to the street; half indoor, half outdoor. If the weather is good enough, I would very like to spend my lazy morning time outdoor, just like those Singaporeans, a small sip of Southeast Asian style coffee, a glimpse of newspaper.

The toast with Ya Kun's Kaya sauce is a must-try. I have no idea how they can make the toast that dark brown color and crispy, but without burning it. The toast is super thin and crunchy, 3 layers overlapped with a lot Kaya sauce which tasted similar to honey/butter bread-spread but with a special flavor of coconut-milk and eggs.

In the regular set, normally with toast, eggs and drink. Eggs is another local special; to have it with white pepper and very special sweet soy sauce, which is impressively salty and flavorful.

- Noon / Lunch -

A light lunch but with a bowl of pork ribs and unlimited awesome soup. Buk Kut Teh as a derived but developed Teochow dish in Singapore and Indonesia, is largely translated into 'meat-bone-tea' in Chinese. Well, actually it's nothing to do with 'tea', but just the soup color is slightly similar to greentea or oolong (I guess). The soup is very savoury with a strong peppery aroma. The interesting thing is, they are using the water pot to refill the soup for you, exactly a tea serving!

- Night / Dinner -

Crab, Crab, Crab!!! A trip in Singapore cannot be without famous White Pepper Crab, and for tourists not used to the local but hidden crab hotspots, Long Beach, is definitely a good and easy choice.

We had our big 'landing' dinner at Long Beach Seafood Restaurant @Dempsey, where a large dining 'village' close to Dempsey hill. You cannot miss The Classic White Pepper Live Alaskan King Crab, Popular Chilli Crab, Steamed Live Scottish Royal Razor Clam with Minced Garlic... (too many).

- Midnight / Nightsnack -

Where to go for late night snacks? of course famous night market (street foodcourt) in Singapore, and the most famous place should be Lau Pa Sat (Telok Ayer Market). It is renovated recently to have a brighter and cleaner image which might be a little disppointed for me, coz I'm expecting real local "dark street food place". Anyway it doesn't matter to the yummy foods there. In the large 'tent-house', you can sit anywhere you want, and go for different little shops to pick up your favorites. The famous Satay is actually ordered from those 'sales' going around in the food market ($48 for a large mix-set of Satays in chicken and beef serving 4 ppl). For durian-lover, the after-meal iced dessert with colorful syrup (strawberry, durian...) and special beans/rice in a Singapore-style ensures a perfect ending of the whole day.
