SINMEI TEA. Facebook

As the sister shop of Hong Kong store (川善茶居) and the 1st shop in Great China, Rui Jin Hotel Area (瑞金賓館區) attracts a lot of stylish cafés by its charming old-Shanghai feel. The shop is on the short Shao Xing Lu, so very easy to find. A tiny entrance covers a quite big inside space which composes five sections, front corner with cashing area and cake display counter, indoor room with some bamboo seats or sofa (limited seats), indoor private room with a large bench table for special event, indoor square room for tea culture experience with traditional Chinese musical instruments and Chinese teas, and the outside terrace with lovely seats. I was impressed by its young and colorful decoration by those simple-designed chairs and lovely cushions. It is a little different from the café in Hong Kong, which presents more traditional features.

The menu is, temporarily, limited for the new-opening reason, but happily, the greentea sweets and drinks taste exactly the same as Hong Kong’s and the kitty-floral-designed menu is so familiar to me. The staffs is quite nice and helpful, and even they are not so familiar to background of SinMei, well they are always glad to know what’s your opinion towards their service, desserts & drinks. And very importantly, I and my friend had a quite speakeasy, comfortable atmosphere in the whole afternoon.

The signature Greentea fountain (抹茶心太軟), Apple Pie are available in shop so far. We didn’t have space to try fountain that afternoon, while we could not turn down the kindness of staffs who gave us Apple Pie for free! It is made in 100% nature way and gives you a mixed taste of butter-pasty and sugar-sweet, very light and fresh; big slices of baked apple is warm, juicy and tender.

We ordered iced greentea latte with milk and soymilk. It is slightly over-priced as the average consuming standard in Shanghai (personal idea), while the taste really deserves the price. I appreciate the natural taste and good control of greentea towards soymilk, quite good balance of two flavors to create a fresh summer treatment. Not too iced, not too heavy foam, everything is just above the lightest level, and the vanilla ice cream ball floating on the top of my drink is never too good for a girl searching for something cool in this early summer in Shanghai.
