Tanned, Twisted, Tiffin


I'm not princess, but having sweet-tooth, I cannot say No to High-Tea as most of girls. Tiffin Lounge of Grand Hyatt Hong Kong, is quite signature High-Tea spot here. Still remember when I kicked off my food blogging journey, one of the most frequently mentioned and recommended High-Tea is Tiffin, for it's twisted leaf-shape iron plates and gelato buffet counter.



Starting from 3.30pm, weekend's sunshine lightens every corner of the lounge. Being located along the window, facing to green garden outside, being seated in the king-size sofa, even the mode is being influenced by the lovely egg-yellow flower. Having a feeling of getting tanned in the summer beach.


As the ordered High-Tea sets being prepared, we checked out gelato counter. It is not big and funny as our high expectation. Undoubtedly, you will find a full long table covered with small or big plates, bowls, pots of candies, chocolates, nuts, fruits. I was attracted by those sticky sauce pot (chocolate, caramel, toffee, etc) and honey & chocolate crunches so much.

As to gelato, the most 'wired' flavor may be fig, but personally, it's not 'so-fig' but sweet, and I still prefer French ice-cream which is much more creamy to Italian gelato.


I really appreciate the twisted design and presentation, giving you a non-stop feeling with elegance and dedicate. With the pastries, there is a cup of English tea. Floral or fruity, it offers 14 choices, such a hard decision to make. Peach Garden Tea, served by tea bag in the separated pot and a set of delicate tea set. A kind of strong fresh peach smell comes out while pouring hot water into the pot, similar to jungle passion fruit, giving a positive, active and energetic feeling. Of course, when you are having the tea, the fruity and fragrant taste is largely reduced.

The Salted:
  • Brie de Meaux on Walnut Toast - the soft ripened French cheese, kind of popular cheese type nowadays. Slight rough toast mixed with walnut and dried grapes, be contrary to the melted and strong taste of cheese.
  • Smoked Salmon Bagel - slightly smoked salmon soft but not outstanding enough as my expectation, with plain bagel.
  • Mini Beef Burger - impressive mini burger with a balanced potion of every ingredients. The marinated cucumber well mixed with mustard, double sour journey to take out the oily feeling of beef.
  • Forest Mushroom Quiche - wild mushroom melted within the creamy custard, even the texture is over-soft, I do appreciate the taste a lot.
  • Foie Gras Pate with Lavash - the most strange one presented so close to the mousse cup, narrowly makes us ignore it. Foie gras pate has the mousse-similar texture, served with crispy thin lavash.

The Sweet:
  • Scones, Jam & Clotted Cream - compared to Oriental Mandarin's scones with rose jam, I feel disappeared towards Tiffin's offer. A little over dry, and not moisture enough in the middle, too easy to scatter when cutting it, plus not special jam or cream.
  • Strawberry Tartlet - quite good-looking pastry, very French style. Taste fresh and sweet for super good quality of that big strawberry and the custard is controlled well to be slightly sweet and light in texture. As to the tart, a little bit thick would be better for me.
  • Cherry Bavarois - another experience between custard and mousse, the cold serving bavarois cream tastes slightly thick with cherry topping. If you are a fruity dessert fan, you will feel good of it. 
  • Opera Gateaux - the best dessert as my opinion. The mirror surface of chocolate mousse well covers the layers of sponge cake and finger biscuits with coffee syrup. Heavy and impressive chocolate & coffee taste with a mix of crispy and moisture. Chocolate-lover will like it. 
  • Praline Paris Brest - Another French signature, while the silky custard to me is always over greasy.

Overall, I prefer the slated to the sweet, even some salted ones are nothing special.


Finish those lovely salted and sweet, if you still have some quota, don't forget the fresh-made waffle and pancake at gelato buffet counter, and make some DIY toppings. Whatever fruity feast or devil chocolate one as mine, waffle or pancake would be the best ending for the great lazy afternoon.
