MR. TACO TRUCK | HONG KONG

Mr. Taco Truck is a familiar name to me, since my last home near mid-level area in Central, but you always put those restaurants at less priority position just as they are close enough to you. We visited Mr. Taco Truck (the one in LKF) in a normal Monday weeks ago. I really like the causal and passionate Mexican culture reflecting from the interesting (maybe also a little bizarre) handcrafts/art-pieces on the wall and in the corners. Going up by the very hidden stairs, we had a quite private space for a fantastic Mexican gourmet night.

Quesadilla $93

Swiss Enchilada with Chicken $72

Nachoes ($92 / Large), Quesadilla, Enchilada are the three impressive and classical Mexican dishes which are more familiar to most of the people, I believe. Nachoes in a large bowl style with upto 5 different choices from beef/ chicken/ pork to veggies, and the meat are presented in different ways to produce the best taste. I was quite enjoying the nature and rough corn-sweet taste from the nachos themselves instead of the avocado / potato salsa.

Quesadilla is half crispy and half soft because of the melted cheese covered inside. It was simply flavored with creamy salsa and cheese which tasted not heavily but rich enough.

A-La-M-Bre $178

Alambre, is the recommended house-specials from Mr. Taco Truck, and it is the dish brought by Mexican Chef with his insistence on the authentic Mexican dish and flavor passed by his generation. To me, the presentation is quite impressive and really looks like an awesome, flavorsome, thick 'pizza' without pizza paste. A bite with melted sour cream with cheese, sweet and juicy peppers, dried and roasted meat, it satisfies the most nature and basic need of human being! haha... ok, this description might be over... LOL

Mexican Seafood Paella $298

Seven Sea Soup $198

Coming to the soup and rice, we were introduced by the Chef to more authentic Mexican dishes, for example the Paella. It was a lighter version compared to Spanish one, less-outstanding presentation (truth) but more seafood. The taste is totally different, sweeter essential from the seafood itself, and even the rice tastes little seafood sweet coz it was cooked by seafood soup. It was not oily, not rich in flavor; everything just kept simply and light. A new Paella experience to me, and very good to be honest.

Sea Soup, by the name you could tell its meaning. A rich seafood combination with simply vegetables, again, it was the simplest and best way to bring out seafood's own flavor; interestingly, the soup was served with the tortilla chips, chopped avocado / tomato / onion, to add extra fresh flavor and to have a special soft & crispy taste of corn chips.

Chicken Mole served with Mexican Rice $138

Look like Japanese curry? Don't misunderstand! It is 100% Mexican :)

I was surprised a lot when the Chef was introducing us this special Mexican dish in a chocolate way. Well, actually it is not hard to understand the coco-kingdom will have a 'chocolate-chicken main course'. Covered by the thick chocolate sauce, not creamy but very smoothy, a strong coco aroma while it didn't transfer a sweet signal to my brain. The complicated taste mixed with sweet and salty, and performed perfectly on the soft chicken; not only surprised, but entertained me a lot.

It is not easy to find this special dish in the Mexican restos here, and it definitely deserves more visits from me.

Besides above, we tried a lot other dishes which I couldn't introduce in very details here; let's just jump into the dessert part :P

Mexican Flan $48

Mexican Corn Bread $48

Homemade Mexican Churro with Chocolate Dip $54

The desserts were not let us down, and I was really appreciated to them even I had fed myself to 100%. Pudding (Mexican Flan) was awesome in its super light way, while it didn't compromise the attractive and comfortable flavor. Corn Bread, was another new experience to me! Very soft texture and tender between the teeth; it was heavier and stronger in the corn & milky & eggy flavor. The last one must be Churro & chocolate dip. It was a little over-oily to me, but I liked its super crispy taste and thin shape with a hollow inside; I never expected they made such a chocolate dip which tasted smoothly soft and chocolate-intensive without any artificial sweeten feeling.
