SINMEI TEA 川善茶居 | HONG KONG

Wanna a green afternoon for weekend? Then you must go there, and remember to call for booking first!

Yes, Sinmei Tea, located in Sheung Wan (very close to MTR exit) and a typical upper cafe. Signature green tea (Matcha) pastries and drinks are what they should be proud of and the reason go for a visit. Sometimes seated inside to enjoy a relax hiding environment, sometimes faces to Sheung Wan's old buildings while sitting outside; and never get boring to their creative green productions.

It looks like a place for Chinese tea and music culture with one wall fully decorated with teas, one arch-shape shelving, and the Zheng (Chinese traditional musical instrument), seems someone just played it. There are limited seats inside and along the open balcony area. One side is the lovely cold counter for the fresh-made 'green sweet productions'.

  • Matcha Genmaicha Marone & Chai Chai

Sticky genmaicha not only blended into matcha, but also reserve some drier part for this little fluffy looking topping. I love my Chai Chai a lot which is quite similar to green tea/matcha latte. Thick foam is so concentrated and 'connected' to be layer by layer, block by block, while it is rounded by a thin circle of strong matcha drink. You can taste a little powder texture of the matcha, just let the strong tea flavor spoil your tongue.

  • Matcha Cheesecake & Angel Cake

Cheesecake covered with the rich cream and you can find even richer cheesecake texture by the side. It tastes not like the looking, it's much lighter and the moisture cake is just melting in the mouth while a strong flavor of matcha expand gradually and quickly. Angel cake really deserves the beautiful name with golden osmanthus flower, light pink-green cream and green sponge cake. Sponge cake is soft and full of air holes, however cream topping is sooooo well-blended, just cream with water and air and to reach the golden potion of three. Just give a big bite!

  • Banana Toffee Cake

Super heavy and sticky cake with high potion of water, the downside cake texture is similar to some Chinese steamed dishes, while this one tastes 100% banana and too heavy not for only one person to try.

  • Green Tea/Matcha Fountain

Both are dressed with little matcha power, crunches and vanilla iceream. To cue the fountain is always the most excited moment, and everyone just holds their camera to capture the best part. There are two kinds of fountain, darker one is the baked matcha while lighter one is just normally done. The outside bowl-shape part is good, just thin but still keep the solid texture. Melted sauce is also made of greentea, sweet & milky, not too creamy but do has strong flavor of matcha and butter I guess...

  • Green Tea Loaf Cake

Super beautiful this cake, with golden flower plus the real white nut slices. And there's good texture when we cut it; it will be paradise for red bean lovers. Lovely cake, just tastes a good mixture of matcha and butter with moisture, heavy texture. Actually it is a testimonial cake, a try of traditional combination of red bean and matcha. Personally, I'm quite keen on this one, attractive presentation with 'mature' looking, impressive taste of sweet and tea in balance, but it will be perfect with a little bit loose texture.

Do not think they only serve for sweeters! Looking some salty and veggie healthy foods? Try this dried tomato with mushroom custard pie. Very moisture flour base holding a thick layer of custard with cheese. Dried tomato is sweet while baked mushroom is soooo juicy. The pie edge is still crispy and you can find the transparent thin layers, awesome! Plus some salad with vinegar, fresh fresh! Weekend, Toxic-out!
