HK FOOD EXPO 2014 PRESS CONFERENCE | HONG KONG


Coming to Hong Kong for almost 3 years, I never miss this yearly even in town, which matters a lot to each eaters, every smart housewife, and maybe every Hongkonger. Food Expo 2014 starts on 14th August in next week, and 10 days before, I was glad to be invited to the press conference. There are quite a lot suppliers from Food & Beverage industry, and also a lot others from tea post, kitchen equipment, furniture which to me, maybe less interesting.


Give something I found interesting there:


Using Monthong with GAP certificate, and Freeze-drying technology for the new tropical fruit chocolate. The freeze-drying technology squeezes the water from Monthong (durian) while preserve the nutrition and taste. Slightly dip into chocolate liquid to make the thin chocolate skin. It has a strong durian flavor with the right level of sweetness and cream-aroma; however the texture is quite interesting, like a solid cube of powder slowly melting in the mouth. Besides Monthong flavor, mango flavor is also highly recommended.

Molecular Gastronomy is a hot topic in Hong Kong from ice cream shop to high-end restaurant. This year in Food Expo, everyone can get the closest chance to experience this new culinary science. Black Garlic is not the first time in Food Expo, while this year the competition seems to be more fierce. Japanese Aomori Black Garlic is a new entry which looks similar to others, while actually it tastes quite different with an outstanding sweetness and sourness.

The lovely Dutch Cheese in the lovely wheel package. It is exactly the same as what I saw and tried during my trip in Amsterdam. Of course, The Dutch Cheese, doesn't bring all the flavors, while the most special one, Pesto Cheese, is outstanding and impressive enough to Hongkongers. An authentic and natural taste of pesto with cheesy creamy flavor, which has mild but flavorsome aroma with basil and a hint of garlic.

Captain Cheng's steamed pork bun and authentic Taiwan Iced Red Tea with brown sugar, is available this year. The chef is making freshly hot steamed bun in front of you.
