Morning I was in Leiden, Afternoon I have been in Amsterdam, one of the most charming and attractive city in Europe, and probably having another fame of drug, red light area and nightlife. Well, I was heading Amsterdam to catch up with my lovely girl; we only had half day in this 'buzz' city with a big crowd everywhere. Amsterdam's image is quite international, plus a little complex and crowded. It is a young and energetic city with young faces every corner, while it is also a charming city rounded with its famous canal. Design and Art is blooming in this city, coz it is too easy for you to recognize groups of art students relaxing and enjoying afternoon sunshine at the bridge foot while letting their creative minds floating in the air.
My first week of Europe journey is quite tight, and even skip the beautiful spring season of Keukenhof, the well-known flower park in Netherlands. Well, luckily I have 3 seconds of floral view on the way to Amsterdam. The sharp colors suddenly bumps into your eyes, wowed me a lot at that moment.
The Portal of Amsterdam city, "I Amsterdam", is such a crowd attraction, but also a free playground for children and even adults. I was so excited and jealous to those young kids climbing and jumping on those huge white & red letters, well, poor us, can only find a hole for photo. The large square in front of the portal is a nice place for street performance, that we are lucky enough to encounter one that day. It is a group of young hip-hop performers, giving a super funny show. The funny tricks that MC gave is still in my mind :)
MC: hey guys, we know you are all very rich and willing to support our performance, coz we know you are not Greece.
......
MC: Wow, quite, such a kindly sir! A paper money, it's not a coin! Sir, may I know where are you from?
The guy: Greek
MC: Ohhhhh!!! Greek, Greek, Greek
The canal trip is Amsterdam's must-try item. Without doubt, sitting on the open-roof boat, and when your eyes are at the same level of streets on the both sides, the view of this busy city would be changed totally. Well, there are a lot canal trip runners along the canal, normally each trip takes one hour including the exploring journey from canal rings in the city and water-area outside Amsterdam.
Of course, the most beautiful view is in the city, especially you have a space at the tail of boat. Look at those buildings, and imaging in the old times, people using the hook at the rooftop window to transfer the grain bags from the ground to the rooftop stockroom.
Before I and my friends stepped into the restaurant located in a very busy dining street, we all believe the high consuming standard in Amsterdam, however, a deal of 5 euro pizza with grilled lamb, rich cheese and in such a crispy Italian-style pizza base, I was surprised a lot by this city again.
Shopping is another exciting thing to do in this city! Especially hanging around in the wheel cheese shop. There is a unbelievable collection of wheel cheese made of cow/goat milk, and pesto, pepper, chili, truffle......
Transportation in Amsterdam is also amazing, not only the easy system of tram, bus and train, but also those lovely bicycles. The parked bicycles at the bridge foot, or at the parking area beside central station (train) shocked me a lot, because it just looks like a huge shade of monster.
Actually, I was very excited to find this interesting moving bar. A dozen of men (why all men...) creates a loud buzz while keeping on drinking beer and 'struggling' to make the huge bar move. Such an interesting invention!
Spring for most of the big cities in Europe equals to Carnivals, and even the space is limited, they can produce such a big happiness with lovely chocolate candies, fried snacks and sausages and those crazy machines.
Yes, half day trip in Amsterdam is impossible to check out national-standard museum or art museum, while we did have time to explore museum. My first experience of Sex Museum, actually is quite informative and educative, of course funny as well.
Time closing to night, even there's still quite a long time to see sunset, seems this city is urging to change to another charming sexy face.
